2006 HSBC Coastal ClassicCoastal 2006, RaceTrack viewWell, to all those happy keen 1020 and 88 owners who specifically remember me promising better things last year for this years coastal, all I can really say is "don't worry, there's always next year's coastal". Anything I can say from the results is what people will know anyway, that is, a big boat race, the faster you were and the more hulls you had, the happier you were. It was a two division race, 98 boats in the "I was faster than Peppermint Planet" division and 118 boats in the "I was slower than Wild Thing" division, with a two and a half hour gap between where the odd boat had nothing better to do than work up enthusiasm for pulling up anchors and contemplate what they had done in the previous year to incur the unmitigated wrath of the weather gods. That said, of 240 boats, only 3 DNS and 21 DNF, I'm sure the Wellington visitors will be impressed with the patience of sailing in the north, albeit perhaps not completely inspired to return. In a normal sort of a race, statistically a little over 80% of boats will sail to within 2% of their RaceTrack history, in this race, only 9 boats did, and only one managed to be within 1 percent, nice effort Jim Beam.
