It's time

I let these slide for a while as the numbers were dropping off, but I've had a number of requests to get started again.

So we are starting with Bob McDavitt. The seminar wil be at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club on the 13th May, start time is 7pm (if you get there a bit early the bar will be open).

"Weather is a mix of pattern and chaos", so says Bob McDavitt,
the MetService Weather Ambassador.

Bob graduated with a degree in Maths and Computer Science from Victoria University in Wellington in 1974. He has been a meteorologist since 1975, forecasting for marine, aviation and the general media around New Zealand and in Fiji. He is a veteran from two campaigns for the America's Cup (in Perth and San Diego). In 1998 he was awarded the "Henry Hill Award" for his enthusiastic approach to sharing ideas about the weather.

As Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt has been in Auckland since 1992 focusing on promoting friendly relations with weather users. This involves communicating awareness about incoming weather events, keeping an eye on the impact of weather on any special events and on the coming season, and arranging MetService promotions, displays, and exhibitions.

He also writes voyage forecasts for sailors cruising around the South Pacific. To help them and others understand the weather patterns of the area, he has compiled a book called the “Mariners Met Pack”.

At this seminar Bob will be sharing his ideas about the wind and weather for the Hauraki Gulf: with a few race-winning tips for sailors.
