Sunstone in the White Is Race

An interesting entry in this year’s White Is race is Tom and Vicky Jackson’s 40ft, S&S designed, 1965 vintage Sunstone.

While the boat is stunning with its clear finish, the real story lies with the owners.
Both worked as educators in the UK and were heavily involved in the offshore racing scene there. But upon early retirement the decision was made to sail off into the great blue yonder and in doing so try and compete in the world’s great offshore Races.
As they had already completed the Fastnet more than once they headed for the New World and the Bermuda Race. With that one under their belts it was off for more cruising and their next target, the Sydney Hobart.
Overall they have clocked up over 130,000 miles, have lived aboard since forever and have raced everywhere they have been.

After the White IS Race Tom and Vicky intend to compete in the Two Handed Round North Is Race.
The boat has been rated under at least four different systems since the old IOR, Tom says IMS was nicest to them while IRC is probably the best one number rule there is.
It is unusual to find a cruising couple that races this actively, or conversely it is unusual to find a racing couple that are also liveaboard cruisers.

We wish them well.
