National Keelboat Champs

RAYC announces a new one-design fleet for the 2008 National Keelboat Championship

The Royal Akarana Yacht Club, Auckland, New Zealand is delighted to announce the 2008 New Zealand National Keelboat Championship, which will run from Wednesday 12 to Sunday 16 November 2008.

In what will be a new era for this regatta, RAYC is forming a managed fleet of 11 new one-design boats which will arrive into New Zealand to be used for these championships. The Farr designed Platu 25 is a proven exciting and fun to sail yacht, with a maximum crew weight limit of 400kg they can be sailed by up to 6 crew including the skipper.

This year’s format includes four race days, returning to a proven and successful event programme. Racing comprises a Qualifying Series followed by Silver Fleet and Gold Fleet Finals. The series is open to up to 20 crews and will be sailed on the Waitemata Harbour, Auckland.

There will be easy access to the yachts from RAYC as well as spectator boats available for media, supporters and the non-racing crews.

RAYC expects this year’s expanded format to attract teams from all over New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific Region to participate.

RAYC says there is already a lot of interest in this year’s regatta and invites formal expressions of interest from Regional Associations, Class Associations and Yacht Clubs.

If you or your organisation wishes to nominate a skipper to represent you in this year’s regatta, please send a completed Expression of Interest to RAYC via email, fax or post as soon as possible. Contact RAYC via email (tash@rayc.org.nz) or telephone 09 524 9945.
