![]() The 2008 OK Dinghy Nationals are due to be held at New Plymouth Yacht club over Easter. A fleet of over 35 boats is expected. Picking this years winner or even favorites is tough, 8 past National champions are in the fleet. New Zealand Olympic representative Dan Slater and runner up at the recent Finn Gold cup, multiple New Zealand and world champion Alistair Gear along with top New Zealand Laser Sailors Josh Junior and Matt Stevens. Other New Zealanders of note will be current world number 2, Mark Perrow and world number 3, Karl Purdie. This top group of New Zealand sailors will have some international competition for the title as well, Britton Nick Craig, winner of the world championships for the past three years, German Peter Scheuerl and Polish sailor Darek Kras, This event is also the last regatta of the 2007-2008 Summer series with double points up for grabs there are still four or five sailors in with a chance. The current series leader is Karl Purdie who on current form should win the series however he is closely followed by Steve McDowell and Luke O’Connell and will have to finish ahead of these two to win the Ralph Roberts trophy.
