What - You Haven't Sailed Around the World?![]() It seems everyone is doing it. There's the Vendee Globe, The Volvo Race, The portimao Race, and now Thomas Colville in the big tri. They will be installing traffic lights at Cape Horn soon. Latitude 38 offered an excellent wrap up, click the headline.

More Politics![]() Andy Rice weighs into ISAF for not giving the female sailors a decent boat to play with. Read his Sailjuce blog here. While I sympathise I don't see much hope for change if they can't even use a perfectly good word like boat instead of a silly one like equipment.

Baja Ha Ha![]() Why are these people kissing in the water? And what does it have to do with sailing? Well, the Baja Ha Ha is the biggest cruising rally on the west coast of North America and it ends at Cabo San Lucas, the beach where they filmed "that" kiss in "From Here to Eternity". So every year the cruisers have a contest to see who can best recreate the scene. I have never participated in "organised cruising", but this report from my brother in law Wes scored a 10 on the jealousy scale, in fact it was instrumental in deciding to try a smaller scale event here.

Vendee Globe![]() The biggest RTW with 30 entries is underway. They will sail single handed, non stop via the Great Capes - a "REAL" RTW race. Unfortunately Crew.org.nz's meagre budget didn't allow me to fly to France for the start, so you'll have to be satisfied with the media releases which I will post here. Meantime click the headline for the story of the start.

Francis Joyon Approaches New Record![]() Far is necessary oneself some besides, and if Francis puts such an amount of coal, riding crop to all goes, car on its machine and other metaphors of the same barrel, it is although it knows pertinently that its happiness of the day will disappear tomorrow with the entry in the depression located in approach of the north of the Caribbean. Confused? Click the headline and all will be made clear, thanks to Latitude 38.

Kiribati Canoes![]() Ok, I spend too much time looking at proas on the internet. I've even had an email abusing me for talking about them too much on Crew.org.nz. But look at these pictures of canoe racing in Kiribati. Count the number of entries. Compare with the current edition of the VOR. Then ask: Who's having the most fun? ![]()
