Caption Competition:
23 Jul - The pic is of Russell Harding aboard the Farr 1020 Prime Suspect. But what is he up to? Is that a new type of facial treatment or camouflage for an undercover operation? Best caption gets a six month subscription to Trade A Boat magazine and a set of Gotcha Straps. Entries close whenever I get back to work. Thanks to Cameron for the picture. Enter >

Missing yacht found:
23 Jul - Hi Everyone - Great news Noe Noe the Farr 1220 has been found. Many thanks to a Wgtn sailor who read about the missing yacht on the crew.org.nz site. He spotted Noe Noe on a mooring in Wellington harbour. The name has been taken off the hull but he obviously remembered her from when they where moored next to us in Tory Channel. A person from Wellington have been arrested and the yacht is now with the Wellington Harbour Police. Many thanks to everyone for your support and especially to the Wellington Harbour Police. - Kate Spackman

Little buoys:
21 Jul - The Harbourmaster's office has produced final plans for Auckland's racing marks. This means a bunch of new yellow buoys will be added, and the red and green harbour marks will no longer be used for racing. Seven new buoys will be installed in mid-late August, and the remainder will appear as sponsorship allows. ARC will be making laminated charts available through racing clubs. In the meantime we've added a link to the chart under the 'Resources' column on the left hand side of this page. It'll always be there for your reference. Or check it out now >

Crew.org.nz joins in 25 year celebrations:
18 Jul - by ZOE WILDE - A pink 1970s catamaran that resembles a spaceship; a 30m state of the art supermaxi; a 100 year old Logan classic built for the prominent collector who founded our national library; a former America’s Cup campaigner; a 36-foot catamaran designed for single handed ocean racing; a rocket called Extreme; and a pint-sized keeler by the unlikely name of ‘Sneaky Frog’. What do these yachts that are so different in terms of size, age and design have in common? Each has secured its place in New Zealand sailing history by winning the HSBC Coastal Classic, our largest and most famous yacht race. Crew.org.nz is also pleased to announce it is closely associated as media partner with the Great Race again for 2006. Read our stories on the Race Website >

Finn World Champs:
Well, I'd have to start off by saying that it just wasn’t my regatta. I was beaten fair and square overall, and today was another example of when things just don’t really go your way. Today we sailed in 16-20 knots in the offshore direction with the breeze shifting every 4-5 minutes up to 45 degrees. Dan's ponderings >

The other three are new designs from the drawing board of Kevin Dibley. Interview with Arthur & sea trial pics >

Burnout:
12 Jul - Email received by Crew.org.nz today - "Sorry to relate that Ray and Lesley Haslar (Jive Talkin') had their house burnt down last weekend taking with it all their precious possessions - trophies, photos and heaven knows what else. They're a gutsy couple and will bounce back but nevertheless, it's a tragedy for them both. Their friends, including the members of Kerikeri Cruising Club have been rallying around to help them through." Crew.org.nz also extends their condolences to Ray and Lesley. Ray is a very well known sailor, the backbone of Bay of Islands Sailing Week, and was named 2005 Sailor of the Year. The Northern Advocate reports >

Bay regatta takes positive IRC stance:
11 Jul - "The RNZYS is holding the first IRC Nationals in NZ during March 07, so we at the Bay Regatta will be running only IRC, dropping ORC, to conform to the National status. This will give Boat-Owners a good opportunity to tune their boats, and get their heads around the new rule in preparation for the Nationals. Of course the PHRF and General Handicap will be run as with previous Bay Regattas. RNZYS are running IRC Measurement Weekends starting August 06." From BOI Sailing Week's July newsletter

Stepping down in style:
11 Jul - What do you do after stepping off a Volvo Open 70 at the end of a gruelling round the world yacht race? Take a shower? Have a good meal? Or maybe catch up on some sleep? Perhaps the last thing you’d want to do is go sailing. However, for three Kiwi watch captains from the race just finished, their solution is to take up OK Dinghy sailing. Story >
